Strategic plan 2026/2028

The “Strategic Plan 2026/2028” reaffirms the central role of the 51 as a leading public university in Italy and internationally.

Fully aware of its responsibilities in an era characterized by profound demographic, technological, ecological, and geopolitical transitions, our University intends to position itself as a platform for generating shared value.

“Terms such as ‘impact’, ‘accountability and ‘science diplomacy’ are current in these pages,” writes the Rector in the preface. “Words with profound meaning, when used intentionally. They express what we believe in and define the theme of our actions for the next three years.”

The 2026 edition continues in line with the previous three-year period, in the belief that complex projects require time, dedication, and consistency to generate concrete, long-term results.

The 2023/2025 Strategic Plan has yielded important results, including 98th place in the QS World University Rankings (the only university in the country to be among the top 100 in the world) and 15th place (first in Italy) in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR).

These achievements have further highlighted the importance of a shared vision that encompasses an increasingly international education (with new Bachelor’s degrees in English), which is more and more inclusive and open to experimentation (through extensive use of AI); a high level research, responsible and oriented towards the common good, at the center of European dynamics in highly innovative contexts; and social responsibility projects that reaffirm the role of the University in the contexts of need. All this without forgetting the active role of businesses and institutions in leading complex projects.

“Only with dedication and by adopting a team spirit can we build innovative paths capable of generating shared value. Together, as a united community, we shall be able to transform uncertainties into opportunities. We shall go on being a driving force of progress, the custodians of knowledge that enlightens tomorrow and supports the growth of a fairer and more inclusive society that is open to the world.” - says the Rector.
